David said to Saul, "Let no one lose heart on account
of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him." 33
Saul replied, "You are not able to go out against this Philistine
and fight him; you are only a boy, and he has been a fighting man from
his youth." 34 But David said to Saul, "Your
servant has been keeping his father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came
and carried off a sheep from the flock, 35 I went after it, struck it and
rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it
by its hair, struck it and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both the
lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of
them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37
The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the
bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." Saul said
to David, "Go, and the LORD be with you.” 1 Samuel 17:32-37 (NIV).
Be honest, you ever found yourself wondering if victory was really meant
for you? You’re out there giving it all you’ve got and you still
seem to come up short? And to make matters worse, even the very thing
you’re fighting on behalf of doesn’t see your true value?
Very few willingly raise their hands in answering those questions. But,
as for me. Well, I’ve never been ashamed to admit where God has brought
me from. And if I can be super honest up until this year, I was still
in the thick of my own wrestling. That is until God served me a reminder
in the form of the scripture above.
David.
We all know the stories of David. We know all of his works. Victories.
Failed places, and so on. Yet, in reading I found myself appreciating
him in a different way. We often address David the worshipper, but this
time I took a closer look at David the warrior. David was pretty ‘bout
it too (smile). When Saul challenged David’s lack of experience, David
didn’t cower. When his brother tried to play him, he didn’t tuck
his tail and run home. Even after seeing the bigness of Goliath, David
didn’t flinch. If fact, David had the nerve to talk smack! Hmmm, I
like this David kid. He had guts, LOL. And what I appreciate most about
the story is that even when everything around him was devaluing him
and speaking against him, David had enough fortitude to declare who
His God was, and the victories that they had won.
I think we all could take a page from David’s book. Yeah, I think
we all need to take a moment every now and again to recount just how
good God has been to US. Ponder with me a moment: Recount a time you
were in the clutch, and God swooped in and saved the day seemingly without
a minute to spare? Selah. See, as believers often times where so busy
looking at the magnitude of what we perceive, that we loose sight of
not only who we are, but who He is. And sometimes even the best of us
need a reminder.
So, that’s all this is today.
Nothing deep. Nothing profound. No, just a reminder. May today be marked
as the day you recounted the victory and became strengthened in the
knowledge of just how awesome God is and just how fearfully made you
are! Remember, we all have days where the problem seems bigger than
the promise. We all have moments where we just want to wave the white
flag, but don’t lose heart. God never said they’re wouldn’t be
giants in your promised land. It's just in this season you won’t have
to work to knock them down. Yeah, it’s called a “sweat less victory”
(smile). May you walk in it today.
Love you,
