Would you say, that in the faith-based community, that there is often an issue with paying our brother or sister for a professional service that they provide (graphic design, yard work, hair styling, painting) etc...but if we contracted someone in the regular world, we would pay them exactly what they asked for without hesitation?

Do we fall short in patronizing our brother or sister?

Do we assume that is should be free or discounted from one Christian to another?

Why do we do that?

  1. I guess we figure cause God is put on it, that it means it equates free for some reason, or sometimes we as Christians sell ourselves short by thinkn its wrong to charge for doin God's work. There has to be a balance learned...
  2. LOL! @ "you'd be takin'em to da pastah!"
  3. M. Hines, you are gonna make me pass the offering plate! Well said!

It is really offensive when those who have taken the time to study or build business from scratch - have to deal with someone who wants ALL FOR NUTHIN. I hope that makes sense.

It is better to go ahead and pay the person what they are worth, this ensures you that the work will be done and that it will be done right.... Read More

If we don't pay a good graphic designer to create a concert flyer, then people will think that it is ghetto, and they won't come because the event looks jenky.

Come on people of God, do what is right. If you hire someone, pay'em. If they flipped the script, and didn't pay YOU, you'd be takin'em to da pastah!
  4. AAAAAAAAmen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blessed does not = FREE! lol!!
  5. ...and the church is so freakin' out about this "economic recession" that we fail to behold our very own recession in the church's internal economy.

Ok... I'm done for real... let me stop.
  6. LOL!!! @ S. Jones

Simply, this whole thing is an impoverished mindset... but we don't wanna accept that and call it KINGDOM mindset... but it's poverty, because you don't feel like saving up to pay the graphic designer to do the flier for your event that you've been planning for a year, but you've already budgeted out for the speakers you're flying in...

...and you wonder why no one came to your event ...because your STRATEGIC MARKETING ASSETS were horrible... because you didn't want to pay the public relationist, or the web designer, or the graphic designer for a GOOD flyer, or the radio station, or the other key people to BRING THE PEOPLE IN that prayer alone won't do.... I'm sorry... let me stop lol... this is a sore spot for me... I've stopped doing free work for ANYBODY a couple months ago.

I can't sow seeds if I never receive them.
  7. We expect that our brothers and sisters should give it away continually, and call it sewing. But many will use external services and pay for them. This is so ungodly, it's shameful at best especially in the economic place that we as a nation are experiencing. Its using in the name of Jesus. See my latest post!
  8. "Well, I don't have it." You know what I'm talking about it! LOLOLOLOL. I used to do PR and and getting my money was extremely difficult. If I said something about it then I didn't know about "sowing seed" or "paying it forward."
  9. amen amen
  10. whew...preach!
