LotteryCan Christians play the lottery?

Is the lottery a form of gambling?

If you win, should the church accept your tithes from the prize money?

What does the word of God say about this?

  1. Playing the lotto/gambling might not be clearly addressed in the word however this issue is best dealt with from the stand point of how winning the lotto will effect your spiritual walk. As Christians we depend on God. Truth is, if life was not so tough most of us would probably never found out how good God is. ie. gotten saved . Christianity is a system of checks and Balances that keep us focused on him. Admit it becoming rich will make it very easy to stray way off course and end up in hell.
  2. I put God first place in my life and I play the lotto numbers here and there. I even ask God for blessings with some wining numbers. He has blessed me with a good job that provides for me and my two children. I do the right things and help others as much as I can. I truly feel there is nothing wrong with playing as long as you do not hurt anybody or yourself. I will play today and I will ask God one more time for his blessing if he finds it right he will do it. If not I am still happy and gratefull :-D
  3. I think everything we do is a gamble or was before we did it. No one knows the out come to anything in life. Its all a gamble. Just because you have faith or a job or husband does not mean it they will always be there.Nothing in life is forever except god himself. So why not play the lottery. Its no different than anything else we do. God knows our future we do not know out future we can only gamble at our thoughts that we do.
  4. It is nothing wrong with playing the lottery if you don't become one of those guys or gals who goes and wastes 500 a month and neglects to feed his family and or himself. My only problem would be if the money goes to something that detracts from God. Some public education can do that sometimes, but other times it would not, in fact it could do the opposite in some circumstances. I only say this because of how one sided our public education system is on morals these days. But scratchers tickets are the best bet in this case because the line has already been drawn at how much can be brought in. The only problem with scratchers is that they can get very addictive very quickly. But if you find some way to limit yourself, it would not be a sin of addiction or a risk to your families welfare.
  5. Well I dont play the lottery however, Whats the difference in a church raffling off T.V.'s and other gifts like gift cards. Now in order to win you have to purchase a ticket and if your ticket is called you win. Someone help me. Some say that lottery is wicked but the bible says that he will take the wealth out of the hands the wicked and place it in the hands of the rightous
  6. :-)Hello Christian friends,

God gives us freedom to do what we want; so all we need to
do is to use this freedom wisely.

If you think money is more important than God, then whatever you do, playing lottery or working for a
    company to earn your bread and butter, is NOT correct;
because you don't put God in the first and topmost
    rank in your life.
You become slave to whatever you do and they (not God)
    become your masters!

On the other hand, if such activities mentioned above
are secondary when comparing to God's place in your
life, then there is no harm to pursue them.

    John J M.
  7. Timothy 6:10 tells us, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." Hebrews 13:5 declares, "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." Matthew 6:24 proclaims, "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."
  8. The church will gladly accept your ten percent if you won the lottery. It will prbably be more than your pastor claiming your membership just to get your tithes.According to the preachers you shouldnt play it because the likelyhood of you winning is slim........until you win then it turns into a move of God.Why not play? If you invest your money in the stock market its just like the lottery. The only fools that dont win are the ones that dont play!!
  9. This is a pretty good topic because I recently dealt with this issue last year when a person who worked for me bought me a Big Game Ticket and said if I win just pay his house off. I had never played it before and I found out how to get the numbers and that week nobody won and it went up to like 200million and I found myself playing every week. I stopped playing because I was beginning to see that I was not honoring God. The Bible says that 1st Cor 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. The words that stands out to me in this scripture is "Whatever You Do"

To make it simple as possible all we have to do is read 1st Corr 11:1 "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ". Let's be honest and ask the question would Jesus play the Lottery. The answer is No.

People Play the Lottery because they don't want to be a good steward. Proverbs 13:11 Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.
  10. Everyone seems to think that playing the lottery is a sin, yet I can't find any place in the bible that states that.
