According to a recent study released by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 8.5 million teenage girls are experimenting with alcohol. Teen girls are also taking marijuana, prescription pills, diet pills and pain killers in record numbers. Millions of teen age girls are lured into these high-risk activities under the overwhelming weight of peer pressure; without the self-esteem to resist, they are walking a path that can lead to depression and even suicide. The DREAM GIRLZ GATHERING offers teen girls a “safe space” in which they can be honest and open, with the assurance that they are valued and understood. The events provide positive perspectives and role models such as media mogul Neechy from NeechyTV (www.Neechy.com). She reaches an impressionable audience and covers relevant real life topics.
The DREAM GIRLZ GATHERING, which is geared towards junior and senior high students, will convene on August 19-21, 2010 in Vineland, New Jersey at the Cumberland County College and is expected to hit Brooklyn, Sacramento, Cleveland and 12 other cities within the next year. Through a mix of high-energy entertainment, real-life stories, drama presentations, and live performances from speakers and award winning artists like Melinda Watts (www.MelindaWatts.com), Kerri Herndon of Empowering Relationships, Inc. (www.erigirls.org), Karima Kibble, Niyoki, Crystal Aiken, and Sheri Jones-Moffett – DGG (Dream Girlz Gathering) encourages young girls to make positive choices and build healthy relationships with their parents and peers.

The DREAM GIRLZ GATHERING does not shy away from difficult topics like divorce, activism, drug abuse, relationships and self esteem - but instead confronts them head on. The DREAM GIRLZ GATHERING inspires teenage girls throughout the country to value themselves and offers practical tips on resisting peer pressure to do drugs, alcohol, and becoming sexually active at a young age.
To speak on the issue of self esteem and self worth - former high-school teacher, 2008 Gospel Dream winner, award winner, and conference host - Melinda Watts will share her past struggle to fit in and what’s it like to not live up to the current standard of teen perfection.
“All of the fun and energy of the event has a purpose: it gets the girls’ attention so we can address the reality of what girls deal with today. So many of them struggle with self-esteem, relationships, and wanting to know their lives have a purpose. We can help with that,” said Melinda Watts, President of Blossom Ministries for the Dream Girlz Gathering.
