Following the accident earlier this morning involving their tour bus, MercyMe gave the following statement:

"MercyMe would like to express their incredible heartache over this horrible accident.  They are praying for the families of all who this will affect, and are asking others to please pray as well.

The band and crew sustained minor bumps and bruises, however their hearts are heavy.  They appreciate the concern they have received from people all over the world."

Two passengers in a car that turned into the path of a tour bus on Lima Road this morning have died, while the driver remains in critical condition. The surviving passenger and driver of the vehicle, is a pregnant woman and is being listed in critical condition, but the baby has died.

Police say a tour bus was traveling north through a green light at the intersection of Lima and Coliseum Boulevard around 1:15 a.m. this morning when a black car turned abruptly into its path. The car, a black Chevy Corsica, was heading south on Lima but turned suddenly eastbound onto Coliseum, says Public Information Officer Liza Thomas. The car drove directly into the path of the bus.

According to police, a female passenger and a male passenger in that car were pronounced dead at the scene.

MercyMe was traveling to  Six Flags St. Louis for a performance, that event has been rescheduled and will now take place on Saturday, September 5th, 2009.

Below are the tweets from Bart Millards Twitter page, moments after the accident.

  • Car just hit our tour bus. We are ok, but 2 of the 3 in the car did not make it. The one that did is pregnant. Please start praying.

  • Can't sleep. Officers left to notify families of their loss. My heart aches. Girl driving is 35 wks pregnant. Both are stable.
  • Been asleep almost the whole day. Was hoping to wake up and this not be real.

Our prayers are with MercyMe and all of the families that were involved.
